Bitget plans to expand its presence in Asia and intends to acquire the Thai crypto platform GMO.

According to Investing.com, the Bitget exchange has already agreed to acquire GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics (Thailand). It is a licensed broker and digital asset trading platform based in Bangkok. Thanks to this deal, the company will be able to officially operate in the Thai market.

Under the terms of the deal, the Japanese corporation GMO Internet and its subsidiary GMO-Z.com Holdings (Thailand), along with other shareholders, will transfer their stakes in the company to BTGT Management (Thailand), in which Bitget already holds a stake.

The exact amount of the deal has not yet been disclosed. The process is currently in the finalization stage and awaiting regulatory approval, as the shareholder structure is changing.

Once all formalities are resolved and approvals are obtained, Bitget plans to launch its trading platform in Thailand on the local exchange.

It is important to note that in Thailand, all digital asset trading platforms are required to hold a license from the Securities and Exchange Commission. Last year, authorities already restricted access to a number of foreign services that did not have the necessary permits.

According to Investing.com, Bitget is currently actively seeking ways to expand its presence in Southeast Asia.

Looking at the numbers, the exchange serves over 125 million clients. It offers not only cryptocurrency trading but also trading in tokenized assets such as stocks, ETFs, commodities, and currencies.
